What insurance do I need as a dog breeder?
As a minimum, you will need public liability insurance to cover any claims involving third parties (e.g. site visitors). You will also want equipment cover to protect the high value items you use for your work. If you have staff, you’ll also need employers’ liability.
Do dog breeders need a licence?
In Ireland, you need a licence if you breed a certain number of puppies within a 12-month period and sell any of them. The rules can vary across Ireland local authorities and regions, so it’s always best to check with your local council.
Does this insurance provide cover for a litter of puppies?
Dog breeders insurance does not provide cover for a litter of puppies. However, public liability will cover you for claims arising from visitors arriving on site, e.g. to view or collect puppies.
